This wonderful set of pots and pans looks nice (also available in red) and are the healthy choice when it comes to cookware. We wrote some articles about cooking light cookware here and here, so we do understand the importance of cooking light and with this cookware you can do just that.

The only disappointment is that you can’t put this set in the dish washer, but that is a small price to pay for all the plus-points this set has speaking for it.

When we think of French cooking recipes we probably think that we can’t do it because French sound so sophisticated and fancy, We could not be further from the truth, French food is not difficult to prepare at all, you just need to start with the basics and like everything else it gets easier when you have gain some experience. We seem to think it is difficult because when we want to eat out in a special way, we are likely to go to a French restaurant for a fancy meal.

Preparing A Meal

In France, a very specific course list is decided on and plays a major role in determining the French cooking recipes. Typically, a French meal includes an entree, main course, cheese, and dessert. These courses are matched so that the meal is not too heavy. For example, a meat entrée and meat main course should never be served together. And the French cuisine varies according to the season.

Another step you can take before French cooking recipes is ensuring that you have all the ingredients typically used in French cuisine. There are several ingredients that are essential when preparing any French dish, and they are a staple on any French kitchen. Such items include: olive oil, vinegar, nutmeg, hot mustard, garlic, onions, flour, sugar, basil, sorrel, parsley, coriander, and sage. Having these ingredients on hand will make cooking your French recipe a lot easier.

Chocolate Mousse A Sensational Dessert

With French cooking, it is best to pick a recipe that is fairly basic when first starting out. If this is the case, there is not any recipe more basic than that for Mousse au Chocolat, or Chocolate Mousse. To prepare this recipe, you will need:
- 8 ounces of plain, bitter chocolate
- 1 ounce unsalted butter
- 3 tablespoons orange liquor
- 4 eggs
- 1.5 ounces sugar
- 2 tablespoons sour cream

First, separate the egg yolks from the egg whites. Whisk together the yolks and the sugar in a large bowl until the mixture is smooth and clear. Next, cut the butter and chocolate into small pieces and place them in a saucepan. Add the orange liquor and 2 spoonfuls of water. Over low heat, melt the mixture until it is smooth, making sure that it does not stick to the pan.

Pour the chocolate mixture into the egg mixture and blend well. Add the sour cream and continue to stir. Next, beat the egg whites until frothy using an electric mixer, allowing them to become “hard.” Gradually add the egg whites to the chocolate mixture, whisking to blend. Pour the final result into small dishes and refrigerate for three hours until serving.

French Cooking Recipes Require Expertise

French cuisine was formed in the 20th century by Georges Auguste Escoffier to become the modern version of French cooking recipes. His cooking book was translated in many languages and this is why many people think French cooking is difficult, but in fact, it is easy to make French recipes. When you start with the basics and learn your way up to be an expert in the French cuisine!

While most cooking recipes will have exact measurements some time you will find that the cook who wrote the recipe used some loose terms that can be interpreted in a lot of ways. In order to come close to the taste that was intended by the original cook you should know what to do with those not so exact measurements.

The most problematic cooking measurements are the non-specific ones. We will explain some of these so you have a good understanding of how much of the ingredients should be used when these measurements are talked about in the recipe. The next few measurements show what the difference is when they would be taken literally.

A Dash

Some cooking measurements call for a dash of pepper or a dash of cinnamon. For those who have no idea of the exact measurement of a dash, they will presumably give the pepper container or cinnamon container a quick dash over the food. If the holes of the container are big, then a lot of the spice can go to your food, while smaller holes will yield less spices. In actuality, a dash measures about ¼ of a teaspoon.

A Pinch

A pinch of salt gives you an impression of you manually getting salt with your fingers and pinching both thumb and forefinger. These kinds of cooking measurements can have different amounts because everybody has different size fingers and different ways of pinching. A pinch is actually just 1/8 of a teaspoon.

A Stick Of Butter

A stick of butter is often called for in baking recipes. Just like the other cooking measurements, this can be confusing and not accurate. In baking, cooking measurements must be accurate to achieve the right taste and rise of the food item. Some supermarkets sell sticks of butter which differ in weight. Therefore, they will most likely have different measurements. A stick of butter is actually ½ cup of butter.

Juices Of A Lemon Or An Orange

Another one of those cooking measurements that can be so confusing is “Take the juice of a Lemon” (or Orange). Since we don’t know what size of orange or lemon the original cook had or how much juice was in them it would be hard to use this as an exact measurement. You would be save to use three tablespoons of lemon juice or half a cup of orange juice.

So these are just a few examples of confusing cooking measurements you could find in a lot of recipes. In the end it’s always up to you, the cook, how much you use or need.
