Product Review

When we bought this campfire cooking equipment it was a turning point for us, for years we had cooked on a tri pod grill and to be honest I was sick of it, I already was thinking of going camping with a gas cooker. This Adjustagrill made cooking so much easier and for us it meant that we kept camping this way. We love this Campfire Cooking Equipment!!!

We have probably all done it, placing a hotdog or a marshmallow on the end of a stick and holding it above the campfire. And in fact campfire spit cooking is nothing more of less than exactly that holding food at the right distance above a campfire.

Campfire spit cooking is a very old kind of cooking, in the time of the caveman they already made two A shape forms from two sticks and a third stick was hang in between over the top.

In early modern kitchens and in medieval times spits where used for cooking large joints of meat or entire animals such as pigs, turkeys, goats or historically, entire cattle. With campfire spit cooking the spit is a long solid rod used to hold food while it is being cooked over a fire in a campfire or over a fireplace. There were even servants that where called spit boy or spit jack that were assigned to turn the spit around. More mechanical means were later invented, first moved by dog-powered treadmill, and then by steam power and mechanical clockwork mechanisms.

Campfire spit cooking and spit roasting was used to prepare large pieces of lamb, pork, beef and poultry, by rotating the meat over the campfire heat it is constantly bathed in its own juices and get done at all sides after some time. To collect the drippings of the meat it is possible to use a drip pan in campfire spit cooking, the juices can be used to make gravy.

With the first signs of spring most people become restless and can’t stop thinking about their first outdoor cooking of the year. For a lot of people, the summer cannot come soon enough and some end up grilling outside on their porch, in the snow. Other people end up in checking their cooking outdoor utensil for the second time (they did it in autumn when the utensils were put away). But who can blame them not only is the taste from a grilled much better then if made inside on the stove top, the summer is so much more fun. In order to make sure that you are able to cook the food properly though, you must make sure that you have the right cooking outdoor utensil.

Even if you have been cooking outside for years, at the beginning of every summer, you need to check over all of your cooking outdoor utensil in order to make sure that they are still up to working standards. If there are any chips, bends, or extreme wear and tear to the cooking outdoor utensil, it is important that you purchase new items so that your cooking is easy and problem free for you. The last thing you want when flipping your burger is to have the spatula come apart from the handle, as that would be a terrible mess and something sure to set off the cook if outdoor cooking is a passion.

Where To Buy Cooking Outdoor Utensils

If you have lots of time before summer arrives, you may want to start looking online at some of the online stores as they may have cooking outdoor utensil on sale being that it is out of season. You can often find a lot of great deals this way and with all of the competition out there, a lot of companies and stores are finding ways to lower their shipping prices. So, in the end even with shipping, it is very likely that you will find your cooking outdoor utensil at a fraction of the cost that they would be in the store during the grilling season.

Also, online auction sites are a great way to find some high quality cooking outdoor utensil and this is also generally the best way to find the widest selection. By searching the Internet for your cooking outdoor utensil, you may find items that you never knew were made and that could make your grilling experience even a more pleasurable one.
When you buy used cooking outdoor utensil make sure that they are in good shape you don’t want to buy stuff that is from poor quality or dirty.

Cooking on a outdoor grill has become the number one family activity, it is a fun way to gather with your entire family and sit around the grill while you wait for the wonderful food from your outdoor cooking grill. In some outdoor designs, the grill may need an outdoor cooking grill exhaust system to facilitate the smoke.

An outdoor cooking grill exhaust system can be necessary to avoid getting smoke into your home when you are using the outdoor grill. Smoke from the grill can contaminate your clothes and can stick to these for a very long time until they are washed.

The need for an outdoor cooking grill exhaust is:

  • to avoid getting the smoke in to your home and the smell of the food sticking to your furniture, clothes and other things. Smoky food smell can be strong at times especially if you have been close to the grill. An outdoor cooking grill exhaust system can ensure that the smoke is sucked up from the grill and does not dissipate into the home.
  • Other use for an outdoor cooking grill exhaust is to avoid any inconvenience for your guests who may be gathered rather close to your grill. If you and your guests or family members are gathered near the spot of the grill, dissipating smoke from the grill can be cumbersome to breathing and may also sting your eyes.
  • You as the cook also need to be able to see the food that your are grilling. An outdoor cooking grill exhaust can help you clear out the smoke for better vision. You can easily determine how cooked your food items are when you can see them properly without any smoke blocking your sight.

Putting An Exhaust On Your Outdoor Cooking Grill

An outdoor cooking grill exhaust system can be very expensive if you choose the more expensive models that are available. Some outdoor cooking grill exhaust systems are specifically designed for specific or complementing outdoor grills. On the other hand, others fit many different kinds of outdoor grills so you have a variety of choices available to you. Ask the appliance store from which you initially purchased your outdoor cooking grill what exhaust would fit your grill.

A dutch oven is a cooking pot that is very similar to a convection oven. It is a thick-walled iron (usually cast iron) cooking pot with a tight-fitting lid. In the old days, dutch oven cooking was done over coals entailed covering even the lid of the pot with coals to ensure that the heat is all around. These days, the pot became shallower and legs were added to hold the oven above the coals. A flange was added to the lid to keep the coals on the lid and out of the food. Dutch oven cooking is usually done slowly and intensely.

Roasts
Roasts are a popular way of using the dutch oven to cook food. Since a dutch oven is usually thick and well insulated, the heat from the coal circulates around the pot and cooks the meat evenly. Dutch oven cooking over coals can be delicious because the juices of the meat are the ones that usually steam up to be absorbed by the meat. This means the flavors of the vegetables and spices that have been added enter the meat and add to the taste.

Cooking in Dutch oven over coals is ideal for roasting because of its slow cooking. The meat is cooked evenly inside and out with little chance of being overcooked due to the juices being trapped inside.

Stews

A stew is a food item that is a combination of liquid and solid foods. It usually has some vegetables and some meats or seafoods in it. Spices are also added to the mix and these are all simmered in water to bring out the flavors of both the vegetables and the meats or seafoods. Dutch oven cooking over coals is ideal for stews because of the slow cooking. Since a stew is supposed to simmer then slow cooking is good for it and the tight, heavy lid of the dutch oven ensures that the stew does not dry up.

Casseroles

Casseroles are pretty much similar to stews except that the pieces of vegetables and meats in it are cut smaller than those of the stew. Casseroles are usually cooked in the same dish that will be used to serve it. Dutch oven cooking and its slow cooking is ideal for this. The dutch oven acts as a standard oven where the casserole is placed in.

The way that dutch oven cooking over coal has impacted outdoor cooking is tangible when you see the newer dutch oven that has been designed to be more convenient yet have the same function. Cooking in a Dutch oven over coals is typically used during camp outs and other camping activities and is very convenient.
